Filipe Chiolo is a composer, singer and dancer from Cabinda, the son of a São Toméan father and an Angolan mother. In the 1980s, due to political instability in Angola, Filipe went to live on the island of São Tomé, where he finished primary school and joined the cultural dance group ‘Os teimosos’.
In 2000, back in Coimbra, where he studied Mechanical Engineering, Filipe joined the Cultural Group of the São Tomé and Príncipe Students’ Association, where he performed as a dancer and percussionist. At the same time, he began to appreciate Coimbra’s song with its sonorities, its guitar, mandolin, accompanying viola and the love songs sung in the students’ serenades. In 2005, he was invited to join the gospel group ‘100 Vozes’, directed by Angolan conductor Guy Destino. On his return to São Tomé, he co-ordinates the children’s choir of the Fundação Novo Futuro STP.
In 2022, he released his first album, entitled ‘Recomeçar’. He is now preparing the Amôlê Tour, a series of concerts that will take place in 2024, the aim of which is to invite the public to turn to love (amôlê) as a way of achieving harmony and joy, especially in the period of tension that the world is experiencing.
