The BAIXaVOZ Choir has teamed up with the duo Bandua to create a unique show that will be performed on 24 July at 7pm in Largo do Romal.
The BAIXaVOZ project is organised by Catarina Moura, voice of Brigada Victor Jara and many other projects such as Segue-me à Capela and Taleguinho, and Luís Pedro Madeira, composer, performer and music education teacher. The choir’s aim is to ‘give a voice to all those who wish to speak about and for the city, from their personal and subjective point of view’, reads the manifesto. This collective of amateur singers who live, work or visit downtown Coimbra incorporates personal experiences, memories and knowledge into the creation of a repertoire of originals.
They are joined in residency by the musical duo Bandua, made up of Bernardo d’Addario (also known as Tempura) and Edgar Valente, both from Beira Baixa. Bandua were forerunners of a path that brings together electronica, Portuguese folklore and ‘Berlin downtempo’, as they explained to Rimas e Batidas. In Coimbra, they will help weave a patchwork quilt that tells, in multiple voices, stories of life, the city and the region.
