Alexandre Linhares Furtado – A TIMELESS GENIUS, ONE OF THE GREATEST
The first vital organ transplant in Portugal was carried out on 20 July by Alexandre Linhares Furtado, so we are marking the 55th anniversary (1969 – 1924).
On the same day that man set foot on the moon – 20 July 1969 – Professor Alexandre Linhares Furtado performed the first vital organ transplant in Portugal in Coimbra, laying the foundations for a new era in Portuguese medicine.
To mark this achievement, the Associação Orquestra Clássica do Centro, which has him as President of its General Assembly, will hold a Tribute Concert to such a distinguished figure on 20 July 2024.
This will be just the first of the initiatives to be realised during the year.
In the next few days we will announce the constitution of the Honorary Committee for this tribute, as well as the programme to be presented on July 20 by the OCC Board and the Organising Committee.
