NOTE: the concert starts at 11pm, right after the poetry recital by Juan Carballo.
Trio of Nuno Rebelo, João Pedro Viegas and Luiz Rocha. Three old acquaintances. Rebelo and Rocha lived in Catalonia for a few years, where they met. Together with Sardinian musicians Adriano Orru and Silvia Corda, Viegas and Rocha recorded Unknown Shores’ first acclaimed album, and Rebelo and Viegas have collaborated regularly in Portugal. The trio’s performance at Liquidâmbar is a world premiere.
The trio is expected to explore the contrast between the electricity and electronica of Nuno Rebelo’s stereo guitar and the clear sound of Viegas and Rocha’s wood and air speakers. It’s not the usual formation, with two clarinettists playing the bass clarinet, but it’s a solution already tested by the two wind players who will be on stage. Nuno Rebelo will play the role of separating the sound flows of the clarinettists, creating stereophonic textures that will suggest paths and changes of direction in the flow of improvisations.
