After what can be seen as a trilogy made up of short and medium-length albums, and exactly two years since ‘Benefício da Dúvida’ closed that same cycle, marked by a process of constant learning that saw her flourish and definitively establish herself as one of the most fundamental voices in this country’s music, Maria Reis returns to publishing with ‘Suspiro…’. An album created in close collaboration with Tomé Silva – a young and very versatile musician and producer who has been making a name for himself in the music made around here in recent times – designed and captured in the intimacy of her bedroom, ‘Suspiro…’ doesn’t try to cut off from that still recent past, not least because there has been a marked language for some time, but it reflects a lyrical and arrangement maturity that is only possible for those who have recognised all the previous teachings in order to reach a new level for the eternity of song. A projection of different emotional states and physical spaces over time, ‘Suspiro…’ carries in the apparent simplicity of its title that same multiplicity of meanings, of an act so natural that it can be as much about irritation as love, resignation or overcoming. Life in a breath? We’ve gone further.
