Musician and composer Miguel Calhaz presents his new CD, ‘ContraCantos’, which is a tribute, on the one hand, to 25 April 1974, in the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, and, on the other, to some of the biggest names who sang April.
Using only his double bass and voice, Miguel Calhaz revisits and reinterprets songs by Zeca Afonso, Fausto Bordalo Dias, José Mário Branco, Adriano Correia de Oliveira and Sérgio Godinho. Like a sensory engine, voice and double bass work side by side, drawing on both resources that aim to achieve a kind of artisanal intelligence, subjective and imperfect – just like everything that is beautiful, or not; full of trial and error, just like history.
