A fitting tribute to Maestro José Firmino.
José Firmino Morais Soares was born in Bóbeda, Chaves (12.04.1931). He died aged 91 (18.03.2023), in Figueira da Foz.
He graduated in Composition and Piano, having settled in Coimbra where he was a professor at the Conservatory of Music and was also a member of its first Board of Directors. In recent decades he has lived in Figueira da Foz.
He has worked intensively in the field of Music Education, most notably when he was invited by the Directorate-General for Basic Education to draw up a programme for Music Education, to be followed officially in all the country’s schools.
He has given several conferences and lectures in various cities across the country. He has given numerous concerts in Portugal and abroad, and has been honoured with various awards and prizes.
