As part of the XXVI Cultural Week of the University of Coimbra with the theme “Voice”, CMUC is organising a concert that explores the theme of the voice as an instrument of revolution and a form of expression. Songs from the 25th of April will be performed in a new jazz style. The origins of jazz go back to times of slavery, with music being a form of liberation from oppression. The songs of April and the voice of the people were also a form of liberation at a dark time in our history.
Accompanied by pianist Raquel Resende, percussionist Rui Lúcio and bassist João Cação, CMUC presents new arrangements of works by Zeca Afonso and José Mário Branco.
Join us and feel the power of our voice.
This concert has the support of: University of Coimbra, Coimbra City Council and the Portuguese Youth Institute.
