The InstruMensal Festival is an initiative organised by the Cultural Association Museu da Música de Coimbra, which brings one instrumental music concert a month to Coimbra’s concert halls.
In May we invited the renowned multi-instrumentalist, but indelibly connected to the cavaquinho, Daniel Pereira Cristo, who is joined by João Dantas Ferreira.
Daniel Pereira Cristo is a Portuguese musician and singer-songwriter who has stood out as one of the biggest names in the reinvention of roots music, instruments and sounds. In parallel with performing art, he develops training projects, community projects and produces soundtracks for documentaries (e.g. the award-winning Rostos da Aldeia).
His debut album, Cavaquinho Cantado, won him the prestigious Carlos Paredes Prize in 2018, and in 2022 he released his second album, De Pernas para o Ar. He is currently releasing his most recent album, Malva Globo, which celebrates 10 years of music under his own name, with various guests.
In this concert as part of InstruMensal, very different from his recent concert in Coimbra at the IV Guitarrinho Festival, Daniel explores the sounds of traditional chordophones, travelling through the Braguesa, the Cavaquinho and the Guitarrinho de Coimbra, accompanied by virtuoso accordionist João Dantas Ferreira and under the watchful eye of his producer, artistic and technical director – Hélder Costa.
