From an early age, Romeu Bairos, a young man from Furnas, decided that his life would be linked to music. Influenced in part by his family’s proximity to Azorean musical culture, he had the opportunity to represent the Azores at the 2021 Festival da Canção, after being invited in the middle of the pandemic to compose the song ‘Saudade’ that would take Karetus to the Festival da Canção.

In 2023, Romeu saw his work leap into the limelight when he joined the cast of the series ‘Rabo de Peixe’ (Netflix).

He has been working on a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Azorean songs, exploring new instruments such as the viola de dois corações, and is about to finalise the production of his first album.
