“As Aventuras do Guitarrinho no País das Possibilidades”
Meet the traditionally-inspired instrumental octet from Coimbra that revolves around an almost forgotten instrument: the Guitarrinho.
With the release of their debut album ‘As Aventuras do Guitarrinho no País das Possibilidades’ on 14 March 2025 (on the Antena 1 label), the Coimbra octet, made up of prolific musicians José Rebola (Anaquim), Pedro Damasceno (Diabo a Sete), Paulo Yoshida (Macadame), Ricardo Grácio (Brigada Victor Jara), Filipe Ferreira (Anaquim), Daniel Chichorro (Almedina Ensemble), Diogo Miguel (Toeira Trupe) and Guilherme Pinto (Madressilva) set out on a good-natured, traditional adventure that revitalises us and makes us want to jump, body and soul.
In these first adventures, and inspired by the work of the Cultural Association Museu da Música de Coimbra, the basis is the creation of repertoire for an almost forgotten instrument: the Guitarrinho. It draws from its traditional roots, but extends beyond them, incorporating elements from ethnic percussion to the electric guitar into its geography. They jump from instrument to instrument, and hope that with the music they make, the audience will jump with them. But they don’t just limit themselves to music for dancing, they offer their audience other sounds and other geographies. From pure, hard folk to more cinematic themes, the journey begins now at Estaca Zero.
