It was 25 years ago that Jigsaw started making songs. Deeply inspired by American popular music, João Rui and Jorri got their hands on the fascinating and inexhaustible legacy of folk, country and blues. Since 2004 they have been refining an alchemy that has made them popular in Portugal and beyond, earning them praise from the international press. With a vast discography published, their live shows are characterised by the way in which the multi-instrumentalist musicians help make the imagery of these musical and literary roots real.
This concert is a celebration of the band’s 25th anniversary and an opportunity to bring together on stage some of the friends and partners who have helped mould their path. It’s a return to the stage in Coimbra, after some time spent in seclusion, so we hope it will be an evening where the magic and music of a Jigsaw will reach everyone at the Gil Vicente Academic Theatre. The year 2025 also marks their return to publishing, with their 5th studio album, this time through the inescapable Lux Records and scheduled for release at the end of the year.
Perfected Lies is an album that deals with the process of constructing lies, will be the successor to No True Magic, and puts an end to a 10-year hiatus from publishing under their own name, during which time the core group of Jigsaw took the opportunity to solidify their umbilical connection to the agency and the Blue House studio, and Perfect Lies is also the first album where the entire recording, mixing and production process was carried out by the band themselves, and all done at home in Coimbra.
