Brief Introduction
‘The power to liberate: The light that breaks through the darkness’ – a concert in which the contemporary works LUX by Dan Forrest (2016) and REQUIEM by M.J. Trotta (2023) guarantee an immersive musical experience that transcends the ordinary.
Synopsis
The concert ‘The power to liberate: The light that breaks through the darkness’ presents two deeply evocative works – LUX: The Dawn From On High, by Dan Forrest, and Requiem, by M.J. Trotta – uniting artistic excellence and emotion in an unforgettable programme.
Part of the 13th Requiem Cycle – Coimbra 2025, this concert celebrates the richness of choral and instrumental music. With an exceptional ensemble of two choirs, orchestra and soloists, the interpretation of these works will transport the audience to an atmosphere of light and renewal, revealing the power of music to illuminate even the darkest moments of human existence.
‘Light is Hope’ – LUX, by Dan Forrest, invites us to reflect on the comfort and promise that light brings, even in the darkest times. This work interweaves ancient Gregorian chants and modern poetry, creating a sacred space where light guides and dispels shadow.
‘Requiem is reflection’ – In Requiem, M.J. Trotta expresses, with delicacy and depth, the complexity of loss and the celebration of life. Each bar is a tribute to the memory of the departed, taking us on a journey of sorrow, consolation and beauty.
In an imposing and deeply spiritual setting – the Church of Rainha Santa Isabel, in the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova – this will be an evening of music, reflection and light.
Under the artistic direction of Artur Pinho Maria, the Inês de Castro Symphonic Choir, Orfeon Académico de Coimbra, Orquestra Inês de Castro and soloists Grace Feltoe (soprano), Mafalda Umbelino Camilo (soprano), Ricardo Vicente (tenor) and José Chichorro (bass) will give life to every note and intensity to every emotion.
