After a career spanning more than 40 years, Bill Frisell has transformed his music and biography into an extensive list of accolades and awards, leaving the weight of his importance in contemporary jazz in history.
Bill Frisell’s career as a guitarist and composer has a solid foundation, recorded in a discography that is one of the richest in contemporary jazz and that spans four decades. One of the happiest records of recent years is Valentine (Blue Note Records, 2020), the first disc recorded alongside bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Rudy Royston. The trio shows an amazing harmony, the fruit of a musical complicity built up over the last few years. Based on a significant number of Frisell’s compositions, as well as an incredible wealth of jazz standards, popular music and American folk themes, the trio is able to navigate diverse territories with extreme ease, as well as making forays into the unknown. Their method is based on interaction, in an almost conversational way that, making use of the proficiency of the three musicians, is capable of delivering remarkable performances that they have given at numerous concerts.
