CALÍOPE is a concert celebrating women as creative muses, through original songs written by some of the most unique voices in the Portuguese language. Calíope brings four female performers and authors to the stage of the Convento São Francisco – A Garota Não, Elisa Rodrigues, Joana Espadinha and Marta Hugon – accompanied by the Coro das Mulheres da Fábrica and an engaging line-up, in a show that reaches out to everyone, through the values of equality and music itself.
This concert is an activity of the Calíope project – Project for Artistic Creation and the Promotion of Gender Equality, promoted by Akto – Human Rights and Democracy with the support of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, as part of its technical and financial support for Women’s Non-Governmental Organisations, which aims to give visibility to women artists as authors and composers, and to promote debate on the role and participation of women in the music industry.
Proceeds from this concert will go to Casa Femina – an emergency shelter for women and girls who have been identified as victims of gender-based violence, namely child, early and forced marriages, and female genital mutilation, run by Akto.
