Summarising Gene Martynec’s career in a few lines is a mammoth task!
Essentially because he has had a very successful career over the last 60 years as a musician (guitar, bass, synthesisers, piano, computers), as a composer, arranger and producer (he played acoustic guitar, bass and synthesiser on Lou Reed’s opus “Berlin”, also arranging the vocals for “The Bed”, for the same disc).
As a producer, he won the prestigious Juno Award for Producer of the Year in 1981.
He has spent his artistic life playing, recording and composing for pop groups and orchestras, as well as creating music for intermedia and theatre.
He was honoured with the Canada Council for the Arts and the Toronto Arts Council awards for musical composition.
His debut in Coimbra, at Liquidâmbar, is with his long-time partner, Nuno Rebelo, and with two musicians from Coimbra who have often collaborated with the Portuguese guitarist. João Pedro Viegas and Miguel Falcão.
