Eight decades of dedication to Fado and the Song of Coimbra
Coimbra Fado, Song and Guitar Academy
At the age of 93, Fernando Rolim has been singing for almost 80 years and is now the doyen of Canção de Coimbra.
He is part of the 2nd Golden Generation of Coimbra Song alongside singers such as Luiz Goes, José Afonso and Fernando Machado Soares, who opened up new paths and new themes for this musical genre.
With a truly unusual timbre and ability to interpret, Fernando Rolim has marked several generations of Canção de Coimbra singers and is today an unavoidable reference in Coimbra singing.
We propose to honour this major figure by bringing together the best that Coimbra song has to offer, such as the academic groups of which Fernando Rolim was a member: the Tuna Académica da Universidade de Coimbra and the Antigos Tunos, the Orfeon Académico de Coimbra and the Coro dos Antigos Orfeonistas da Universidade de Coimbra.
In addition to these groups, the Coimbra Raízes Fado Group, featuring names such as Octávio Sérgio and Rui Pato, and the António José Moreira and Jorge Cravo Group will also be present.
