More than 30 hours of music, 17 shows, 14 artists and three stages promise to make New Year’s Eve in Coimbra a memorable event in 2024. This year, and for the first time, the programme starts on 28 December, with daily performances in the city centre, which is once again the epicentre of entertainment. With the works underway in the Portagem area almost finished, the main stage returns to its usual location, as do the shows in Praça do Comércio and Praça 8 de Maio. After making its debut in last year’s edition, the D. Pedro V Municipal Market is once again on the New Year’s Eve itinerary in Coimbra, presenting a programme that brings the best of Brazilian rhythms to the stage.
The last day of the year promises entertainment at four different venues in the city centre. Opening the programme at 9.30pm in Largo da Portagem is the DJ duo from Coimbra, Rui Tomé and Luís Pinheiro. At the same time, but in the D. Pedro V Municipal Market, the group +Samba performs. An hour later, at 10.30pm, Átoa take to the stage at Portagem, kicking off the programme for the big New Year’s Eve night.
As tradition dictates, the arrival of 2025 is marked by the Mondego at midnight sharp, with the launch of a ten-minute firework display that promises to fill the city’s skies with colour and brilliance. This is followed by a concert by Matias Damásio, one of Angola’s most renowned musicians. The main stage programme ends with DJ Fabior, who starts his set at 1.45.
On the Praça do Comércio stage, electronic music promises to entertain the public for almost five hours. The DJs Meninos da Vadiagem open the show at 0.15, followed by performances by the multi-award-winning producer and DJ from the Algarve, Pete Tha Zouk, and Nuno Botelho from Coimbra.
In Praça 8 de Maio, Revival Music kicks off at 0.15 for an open-air disco with a playlist entirely dedicated to the greatest hits of the 80s and 90s. A real journey through time, with a line-up that favours the best songs by great national and international artists.
